SESSION FOUR | FREEDOM: BREAKING OLD PATTERNS
Freedom isn’t just something Jesus did for you, it’s something you have to learn to walk in.
Because a lot of people are saved… but still stuck. Forgiven… but still functioning like they’re bound. And it’s not because Jesus didn’t do enough— it’s because they haven’t learned how to stand in what He already finished.
This Scripture is a call to stop going back to what God already brought you out of. You’re not who you used to be… so stop living like you still are. Today, we’re going to talk about what it actually looks like to walk in real freedom… not just positionally—but practically. - Pastor Seth
Set Free to Be — Breaking Old Patterns
Scripture Focus
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind…” – Romans 12:2
Devotional Thought
Freedom isn’t just something Jesus gives you—it’s something you have to walk in.
And one of the biggest things that keeps us stuck?
Old patterns.
The same reactions.
The same habits.
The same thought cycles.
You can be saved… and still stuck in cycles that don’t reflect who you really are.
But here’s the truth:
You weren’t just saved from sin—
you were set free from the patterns that kept you bound.
“Anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone…” – 2 Corinthians 5:17
The problem is… sometimes the old life is gone, but the old patterns remain.
Breaking the Cycle
Patterns don’t break automatically—they break intentionally.
You don’t drift into freedom…
you decide into it.
Maybe your pattern is fear.
Maybe it’s anger.
Maybe it’s insecurity or going back to the same thing God already brought you out of.
“Sin shall no longer be your master…” – Romans 6:14
That means you don’t have to respond the way you used to.
You don’t have to think the way you used to.
You don’t have to live the way you used to.
You are not a prisoner to your past patterns.
What Freedom Looks Like
Freedom isn’t just what you’re leaving… it’s what you’re stepping into.
“Christ has set us free… stand firm then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again…” – Galatians 5:1
Freedom looks like:
Choosing truth over lies
Choosing obedience over impulse
Choosing purpose over привычность (what feels familiar)
Because just because something feels familiar… doesn’t mean it’s where you’re supposed to stay.
👉 The old pattern may feel comfortable…
but it’s not where your calling lives.
Overcoming the Pull Back
Let’s be honest—breaking patterns is hard.
Because your flesh remembers what your spirit is trying to forget.
That’s why Scripture says:
“Take every thought captive…” – 2 Corinthians 10:5
You don’t just break patterns externally—
you break them internally first.
Catch the thought
Replace it with truth
Choose a new response
Over and over again… until the new pattern becomes your normal.
Today’s Challenge
Ask yourself honestly:
👉 What pattern is God calling me to break?
And then take one step today:
Respond differently
Speak differently
Think differently
Because freedom isn’t found in one big moment—
it’s built through daily decisions.
Prayer
God, thank You that I am not who I used to be.
Give me the strength to break the patterns that are holding me back.
Renew my mind, reshape my habits, and help me walk in the freedom You’ve already given me.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
