SESSION FIVE | BELONGING: BETTER TOGETHER

Following Jesuswas never meant to be a solo journey.

But a lot of people try to live their faith that way. Just me and God… no people, no vulnerability, no accountability. And on the surface, that feels easier… safer even. But isolation doesn’t strengthen your faith—it slowly weakens it. Because you weren’t created just to believe… you were created to belong.

This Scripture reminds us that we don’t just need truth proclaimed—we need people in our lives who will push us, pray for us, and walk with us. Because at the end of the day… you grow better together. - Pastor Seth

Better Together — Built for Community

Scripture Focus

“I have called you friends…” – John 15:15

Devotional Thought

God didn’t create you to do life alone.

From the very beginning, His design has always been community.
Not surface-level connection… but real, life-giving relationships.

Because the truth is:

We are better together.

Not just around people…
But truly connected in the right kind of relationships.

Known — The Power of Being Seen

We all want it—even if we don’t always admit it.

To be known.
To be understood.
To be fully seen… and still accepted.

Jesus said, “I have called you friends…” (John 15:15)
That means relationship—not distance.

But being known requires something most of us resist:

Authenticity.

“Confess your sins to each other… so that you may be healed.” – James 5:16

There’s healing on the other side of honesty.
There’s freedom on the other side of vulnerability.

👉 You can’t be fully known… if you’re always hiding.

So the real question is:

What’s holding you back from being real?

Loved — More Than Words

Love isn’t just something we say—
it’s something we show.

“For God so loved… that He gave…” – John 3:16

Love moves.
Love acts.
Love sacrifices.

“Let us not love in word… but in action and in truth.” – 1 John 3:18

Real love looks like:

  • Showing up when it’s inconvenient

  • Extending grace when it’s undeserved

  • Forgiving when it’s difficult

Because love isn’t proven in comfort—
it’s proven in commitment.

Challenged — Growing Into Who You’re Called to Be

Here’s the part we don’t always like…

Growth requires challenge.

“Speaking the truth in love…” – Ephesians 4:15

“Iron sharpens iron…” – Proverbs 27:17

The right people in your life won’t just comfort you—
they’ll call you higher.

They’ll speak truth.
They’ll ask hard questions.
They’ll refuse to let you settle.

👉 Because people who truly love you… won’t let you stay stuck.

The Balance That Changes Everything

Here’s where it all comes together:

  • Known + Challenged (without Love) = Legalism

  • Loved + Challenged (without Being Known) = Discouragement

  • Loved + Known (without Challenge) = Stagnation

But when all three come together?

Known. Loved. Challenged.

That’s where transformation happens.

That’s where people step into who God has called them to be.

👉 When you challenge someone you love and truly know…
you don’t push them away—
you empower them forward.

Today’s Challenge

Take a moment and reflect:

  • Am I truly letting myself be known?

  • Am I actively loving others?

  • Am I allowing the right people to challenge me?

And maybe the bigger question:

👉 Who is in your life making you better?

Because who you surround yourself with…
will shape who you become.

Prayer

God, thank You for creating me for community.
Help me to be real, to love deeply, and to receive growth through challenge.
Surround me with the right people—and help me be the right person for others.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
